The Things He Handed Down
June 17, 2012Happy Father’s Day! Today was a big day for our family. I’ve been given the great privilege of serving on staff at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church as Director of Student Ministries, a position my father held back when I was growing up. The desk in the office is literally the same desk at which he sat! We’re pretty excited to be a part of our family legacy in such a meaningful way, and to be a part of Coral Ridge at such a time as this. More on all that later. For now, as a reminder, I wanted to share a message I preached last Father’s Day, 2011. It’s a little different than the typical Father’s Day message… I hope you enjoy!
Throwing Anchors
March 13, 2012We all suffer. We all doubt. So why do we have such a hard time dealing with it? Doubt is a dirty word in Christian community–we’re told we must be certain of our beliefs. But certainty is an emotion. Admitting doubt, some say, reveals weakness in faith. Well, I’ve never met a strong believer in Christ who hasn’t wrestled with suffering and doubt. Doubt is the opposing force that strengthens faith, like barbells for weightlifters.
So how do we do it? How do we properly confront our suffering and doubt? How do we survive these dark seasons? Paul’s letter to the Philippians offers us an effective and super practical solution. Click the video to hear it.
The Inter-Generational Church

It’s that time of year again. For one spectacular weekend at many churches, senior pastors grin hard while they pass the weekend service reigns into the hands of over-paid, over-valued (or is that under-paid and under-valued…) student pastors for a little “here’s what we taught your kids all year.” If you sense a tone here, it’s only because when I was a youth pastor, I never got to do a Senior Weekend :,-(. Anyway… Last year, I posted a great message by the most creative, dynamic, influential and effective youth guy I’ve ever met: my brother Matt (@matthew_bond). Click HERE to watch.
This year, Matt and his middle school counterpart, Chris Sturgeon, team-taught. The message is… well, freaking awesome. While Matt has this up on his blog, I couldn’t resist putting it here. One, he’s my brother and my hero. Two, the message focuses on something very near and dear to my heart: cross-pollination of the generations in Christian community. Have a listen and give Matt and Chris a shout in the comments here, on Matt’s blog, or on Vimeo.
Enjoy!
A Study of Philip: Seeing Jesus Every Day
March 29, 2011This is a message I gave at Living Life Ministries in Johannesburg, South Africa in February 2011. We explore the intersection of our daily encounters with the lost and our daily encounters with Jesus. Enjoy–comments welcome!
Communicating With Millennials
March 28, 2011“Younger people don’t pay attention.” ”They all have ADD.” “It’s impossible to connect with them because they’re always buried in their phone.”
I find myself in a lot of conversations with pastors and leaders who share a lot of the same struggles. One that seems to come up a lot is communicating with the younger generation. Here’s a short clip from a radio interview I did recently that provides some insight on how to really connect with Millennials. Comments welcome!
